I have been learning, struggling, evaluating and experiencing design all my life.
Truly.
I am not someone who went to school to become a designer. I went to art school to learn how to become a better artist. To live with myself and the creative that matures with me on a daily basis. I wanted to learn the history and principles of art and study the artists and designers who made the choice to live by their work.
I am inspired Mark Rothko, Andrew Wyeth and Mike and Doug Starn.
Harley Davidson
On the Roam
I was asked by Harley Davidson to come up with a design direction/approach for hangtags for a custom history based clothing line for Jason Mamoa entitled "On the Roam" This title also reflects his personal clothing line and style of the same name.
The job was to create a hand built style of printing to reflect the early history of Harley Davidson and the mis-registration and off color printing process that might have happened at this time period.
I was pretty excited about the opportunity and very quickly adapted my aesthetic direction to the idea.
All of the tags were constructed from found materials and papers. I printed out titles and some of the copy and cut them up to be pasted into place like an early mechanical would be.
There is definetly a certain feeling these pieces are sending out.
I think this goes to show that the largest of ideas thought down to the most beautiful of essences can create a strong design and something you want to continue to look at.
